In this article is http://myplasticfreelife.com/ and the TED video to accompany the founder of that site. A good activity to do with the kids could be to ask them to keep a garbage diary. The plastic free woman physically keeps the plastic trash she has. Instead of asking students to keep their garbage (and I mean ALL their garbage or you can choose to focus only on plastic), have them keep a diary/journal of all the items they throw away for a day or week. Then ask them to comment on it at the end of the term and share/discuss in class to come up with ways to reduce their amount of garbage. For example, simply seeking out products with less packaging will reduce your amount of garbage from the jump, or dining in can generate less than take-out sometimes.
